How do I access the inlet valve on a toilet like this?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

The flush on my toilet appears to be just... very broken. It takes about 30 minutes to refill, and everything inside looks very old and blue. I've replaced the flush and refill mechanism on another toilet previously which was simple. However, in this new house I can't seem work out how. Unlike previously, this toilet is fully sealed in. I suspect I might have to remove some of the tiles, but before I do that I wanted to check if anyone here has seen similar previously and has advice/suggestions/warnings etc.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

hi, the cistern may have be removed from the pan which usually be fixed underneath by a couple of wingnuts. you will also have to remove the screws that fix the cistern to wall. try to be care full as you do not want to crack the ceramics. from this point take off the cistern paying attention to all parts removed as you will need to reassemble once works have been completed. I hope this helps i would always recommend a professional unless you are competent

Is the toilet wall mounted ,because if it is and all you can see is a flush plate everything can be done through the plate no problem.

It sounds like you have a concealed cistern. Sometimes it’s just boxed in and you may need to remove tiles and make good the boxing after. Really the installer should have left you with some sort of access. Is there a lid that lifts off? Sometimes an access panel is tiled but has silicone grout lines that can be cut with a knife and resealed after. Or if you have a Grohe is similar style toilet the flush button can be removed with a large enough hole to carry out maintenance. Again sometimes it’s lust boxed in and tiled and you just have to make a mess and fix it after. Good luck.

If you can't see the cistern it sounds like it is a concealed fixing cistern with just a push button on the wall to flush it if so i would check for a removable panel behind and slightly above the w.c pan if not check in room behind the toilet there is usually a removable p.v.c hatch if still no joy tile removal will be req
