How to get rid of smell after removing 1969 floor tiles,
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.24 PM
Removed 9"" 1960's floor tiles after a flood. applied the rules of the council for asbestos tiles. Left with a horrid chemical smell from the black ahesive. I am having a lvt floor fitted in September. Should i coat the floor with P.V.A.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The best thing for neutralising chemical smell is usually to use white vinegar! So before applying pva I would coat the floor in white vinegar and leave overnight before using baking soda and then clean thoroughly! Then I would apply pva to ensure the floor is clean and dust free..

do not apply anything to the floor as this will only cost you extra when installing the lvt as this will all need grinding off at extra cost to you.
best to talk to the fitters fitting the lvt first.

I should imagine that after you have removed the tiles that your sub floor is completely flat to lay lvt it would be an option to prime your sub floor and put a 3mm self level over it that should neutralise the smell and also give you a good flat base to put your lvt down on
