Changing a towel radiator on megaflo (with condensing boiler), what to do after rad is changed.

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.24 PM

I’m changing 2 towel radiators like for like and have an ideal Icos HE12 condensing boiler with a megaflo cylinder and tank in loft. I’m aware of what I need to do the change radiators but don’t know how to replace the water that has been lost from removing the 2 radiator or how (if necessary) to re-pressurise the system. I can’t see a pressure gauge anywhere in boiler or near megaflo. There instructions on megaflo to regenerate air gap but not sure if that will refill the system and replace the lost water from the 2 old rads. Any help appreciated as can’t seem to find an answer to this anywhere online.

The chances are that you have blocked the feed pipe with crud from the F&E tank or the tank has run dry. Otherwise you may have an air lock. Either way, it is clear that you are not competent deal with jobs like this & therefore recommend that you hire a professional who is. Long term damage resulting in shortened system life can be done by not understanding how to properly drain & re-fill a system, particularly if not understanding the dynamics of it's workings.

There has to be a filling loop somewhere to re fill the system but yeah like them guys said, if you don’t know how to find it then get a competent person who knows what they are doing.

If boiler and megaflo in loft you must have a pressurised system as no head height for feed tanks if you can not find a pressure vessel plus a filling point with gauge to tell how much pressure of water to put in your system which should be between 1 to 1.5 bar then system installed wrong need to see what plan of system you have reason being you have a megaflo in loft so you do not tanks for water supply to system hope this helps regarding re-charging there must be a fill point try looking under boiler for a filling loop two black plastic levers with stainless pipe in-between cheers Spence
