Bathroom Fitting

Bathroom Refurbishment with daily use of toilet/skip

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.24 PM

Hello all, Currently I am looking to refurbish the 2m*1.8m bathroom (and possibly later the 5m*2m Kitchen) of my one-bath Flat (1st Floor). I would like to replace the current radiator with a heating towel rail, and the other fixtures (bath, toilet, basin) more or less in the same place. Reading online there are many suggestions to hire a portaloo for builder's use. However due to limited space it might be difficult to locate a regular-size portaloo downstairs around the flat buidling. My questions are below: 1. Is it possible to leave the current toilet as the last thing to remove during the work, so that builders could have access to it for daily use? 2. I would like to have full water/damp proof done for the bathroom walls+ground, after which tiling to go upon. Is this possible to do under scenario of quesiton 1? 3. As explained above there are limited space around the flat building so probably difficult to locate a Skip for buidling waste. Is hiring Skip a must-have for work like this? *I wish to have bathroom refitted first, so that once Kitchen refurbishment starts builders would have access daily use of the toilet. Any of your feedback would be much appreciated. Please let me know if you need further info for your judgement. Regards Luc

Hi there, Any decent building/bathroom company will know the ins and outs of dealing with temporary toilet situations. Most builders would leave the original one untill the very last stage to have use of it. Maybe go a day or two where they dont have one for certian works but usually always find a way to get one working again. I've worked for years like this. There's not always an easy answer for doing bathrooms. I don't see not having a portaloo as a major problem. Skips aren't always necessary either, when we do work like this, sometimes it's easier to find a nice neat spot outside that's out of the way of the neighbours and have it collected by a waste removal guy in a van or tipper. Beats the skip issues and saves out guys taking it somewhere. With a full bathroom rip out we have him out a couple of times over the course of the project. Hope this helps. David
