Vegetation coming out through the grout on a 12 month old landscape work

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.24 PM

Hi everyone , I have some questions and I was hoping if you could help. Almost a year ago I hired a landscaping company to do my backyard with Indian stone. Everything looked fine at first but then the following happened: The grout did not settled after a month: Landscaper blamed the bad weather and re-grouted using paveturf instead of a basic sand mix. Now after 12 month down the road vegetation and moss started appearing on the Pavetuf and through the slates that were laid on each side. When I dug a bit on the sides where the slates are I've noticed that the same sand must have been used as the 1st grouting and has not settled. I've also noticed that there was only a thin line of slates followed by sand mix. Now my questions are: 1. Is it normal for moss and vegetation to appear on paveturf after just a year, was I doing something wrong (for example, not sealing it)? 2. Were the sides where the slates got laid done correctly and is it normal for vegetation to appear? P.S I remember the landscaper laying down a weed membrane. Any information is really welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Hi, yes this is completely normal in my experience as brush in compounds such as paveturf, weatherpoint, easy joint etc arent very strong. The best jointing material to use in your case would be GFTK vdw850 which is a strong resin based product. GFTK however is more on the pricey side when it comes to jointing products and takes a little more time and care to install. I hope this helps to answer your question and if you have anymore more questions do not hesitate to contact us again.

Was the sandstone laid on a full wet bed! It could be that it’s not a full wet bed creating a lot of moisture within the joints itself ?
