How easy is it to cut through plaster board

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.40 PM

I have had my garage converted and had a dividing g wall put in place. I want to put a pool table on on one side but there is not quite enough room. I am wondering f if it would be easy to cut long thin rectangular holes in the plaster board (roughly 60 cm length and 20 cm height) to provide more queuing space. The wall was put up with batons with cellotex between them and then plasterboard on each side. So I would need to cut out the cellotex too and have a hole on both sides of the wall. This probably sounds a bit mad but it is annoying it does not fit. And thought I could cover the hole with a picture! Thanks

Hi, Its very easy with the right saw. You need a Pad saw or a plasterboard saw. Wickes,B&Q,Screwfix sell them. It is a stiff saw blade in a knife type handle. The skill is to stab/poke the saw in and through the plasterboard then saw the section out. You can drill a start hole if you would prefer, but its not always required. You will need to be careful of cables and the battens may restrict movement, but it is a simple task. I would suggest scoring the cut out with a stanley knife first to give a job line to follow. The Celotex will cut with the pad saw, but it will give a rough finish. You can cut celotex better with a hacksaw blade. I think you are right is does sound mad and hopefully your taste in Art is good as I think it will look very odd!. Hope hat helps.

I personally would cut the hole in between the frame work. Make the box hole with a pad saw, re plasterboard inside box make it nice you can then put somthing in it at decor maybe with a spot light ? Like a cubby hole if you get my drift
