Replacing isolator switch and old VIR mains cable to flat - type of certificate(s) are required?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.40 PM

Hello, we live in an apartment on the top floor of a converted Victorian house. We currently have an NICEIC registered electrician replacing the isolator switch in the electrical cupboard in the communal area and the old vulcanised rubber mains cable from the isolator switch /meter to the consumer unit in our apartment. I am not clear what type of certificate is required for this work, if any? Is it notifiable? I have asked the electrician to provide certificates but he has not been clear what is required and I am keen to ensure we have the correct documents for the work prior to sign off.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If he is niceic registered he should know what type of certificate to give you. If not he can as niceic for advice.

To be honest, it is not a major job. Very simple from an electrical point of view. Most difficult part would be pulling the new cables in. I would have thought a minor works certificate would cover it.

For any electrical work , you should receive a Certificate. For your job is Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate.

An EIC (electrical installation certificate) must be issued for all new electrical installations. It may also be required for an alteration or addition to the installation – depending upon whether or not a new circuit has been installed. Where an alteration or addition is carried out but does not include a new circuit, a MEIWC (minor works) or an EIC may be used
