Hi,
I have moved into a new detached home and I want to install a number of outdoor wall lights, such as up & down wall lights. The external material of the house is brick.
However there is no wiring present for these lights.
I want to install about 6 lights - 2 at the front of the house, 2 at the back, a couple on the sides.
I also want to be able to control them say from the same switch or same app via mobile.
Is it possible to have wiring installed without tearing up the walls inside the home e.g. feed wiring behind the brick cavity? Or is the only way to do this to have the wiring circuit running outside the house and then feeding up to each wall light?
Thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Hi, it would have to be either wired from within the house be it chased in the walls or surface trunking or from outside surface either in SWA cable or conduit metal or plastic. There may be some other options but this would need a site visit to advise on all options available with your particular set up. Hope this has helped. Regards David.
You would require to chase the walls out but failing that yoi could have surface conduit, swa cabling. Best way forward would be visit the property to discuss the options possible in better detail
The construction of modern domestic dwellings in the UK is normally timber frame. This will almost certainly mean a series of upright wooden joist with a membrane attached & insulation in between. To use the cavity would require disturbing the internal masonry to make route for the cable & also piercing the membrane.
Hi, by British standard would be
1. Inside house chased in the walls or surface trunking or PVS conduit pipe ( this not look like nice)
2. Outside surface SWA cable or conduit metal or plastic.
For your Job I recommend to use PVC conduit pipe if possible
For switch , I recommend to use photocell
switch. All the best Ahmed
