Standing water under floorboards (crawl space) after leak
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.39 PM
Hi there, We recently had a leak fixed in our drains outside the house. Unfortunately, waste water made its way underneath the house in the crawl space (?). It’s around a meter under the bathroom (the house is built on a slight slope). It creates a horrible smell in the house and I was wondering what needs doing once the water has been pumped out? Do I have to seal it somehow or would it suffice to let it dry out and potentially put some gravel on top? Thanks in advance for your help!

if the original leak was out side the property and the water came in, it will also go out the same way, you could also pump it out with a submersible pump available from most diy stores. you could put gravel on top but that is permeable so would allow any smell to come through, so you would have to put down and seal round the edges a non permeable membrane such as a damp proof membrane.
