When do I need to change fuse box?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.39 PM
Hi, My fuse box was last inspected in 2011. How often do I need to replace the unit with a new one?

Get an EICR done on your property, this will highlight any issues, not just the ‘fuse box’ but the whole installation. As long as the consumer unit is not damaged, shows no signs of thermal damage etc, there is no need to change it. You can do it off your own back and get it changed, but if it is how I described above then there is no obligation to.

There is NO requirement to upgrade a CU just because its plastic. Deacons advice is correct.

Even if you pass EICR you need to replace consumer unit if is plastic to a metal one.. In case any fire in the house you want be covered by insurance companies. New regulation since 2019.

Agree with Deacon and Elec-craft. Always a sensible response. Ignore DJ he’s talking nonsense
