Plumbing

No water going to hot water taps/showers or toilets

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

I just came back from holidays to discover that my taps, toilets and showers have no water. The cold water tap in the kitchen which supplies the mains water is the only one which is working. The boiler and heating system is also working fine and water is being pumped to all the rads. I looked everywhere for a pump of some kind and can only see one circulation pump which is in the boiler and that one seems to be working fine as the rads are getting hot. In the upstairs I only see a big hot water tank and two motorised valves which are both opening (light going on) when I turn on the heating ( I think one is for hot water and one is for the radiators) . I cant see another pump anywhere and I dont seem to have a cold water cistern anywhere ( I dont have an attic, its just a crawl space that cant be accessed)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi your heating system is sealed and would not reflect an issue with cold water mains - you need a plumber to come and check that your stop cock is turned on and that the water supply in the area has no issues initially

You may want to check your ball valve in your cold water storage tank as it maybe faulty and not letting any water in. Therefore would explain getting water from your mains kitchen and no where else

Maybe a ghost in your house is playing tricks on you and turned off your water when you were away on holiday haha Check the stop cock and if necessary call out a local plumber in your area

If I read it correctly your mains water tap in kitchen is working but no where else is this seems like it would be a ball valve in the cold water storage tank isn't filling I would usually advise a new ball valve due to the price and make it less likely to happen for a very long time
