Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.01 PM
Hi Tradesmen I am starting refurbishment on my property needs nee kitchen, bathroom , floors and paint, however I’m not sure whether I should paint and so the floors before the kitchen gets fitted or can these be done after.also May I ask when getting a kitchen and kitchen fitter will they take my old kitchen or do I need to get that done separately.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Always paint walls and lay floors if possible firstly . This will allow plinth boards and splash backs ect to be fitted correctly first time .
Also if for any reason the kitchen needed to be removed then technically only half the flooring would be completed and also same with wall paint .
I would recommend a corgi registered technician to remove/disconnect gas supply and sparks to remove electrical sockets if back boards are fitted. Other wise removing worktop base and wall units ect can be carried out by carpenter hope this help

All first fix work should be completed first ie kitchen rip-out any plastering/new socket positions & plumbing re-routines etc.
Then the kitchen should be installed. Finishing works ie painting fitting floors etc completed last. Also NEVER install a kitchen ontop of a floating floor whether
that be Laminate/ LVT or Engineered wood. Also there is no need to put any finished floor under the kitchen units only just to the unit legs as your just wasting money. As for the disposal of old kitchen & trade waste this should be discussed with your fitter before hand but obviously for them to dispose of this that would be an extra costing to you but normally they will dispose of all that for you.

Hi,
The usual procedure for a kitchen remodel is the following:
- Removal of existing kitchen/tiles/etc
- Modification of electrical and plumbing to accommodate the new design
- Plastering of walls/ceiling
- Painting of all plaster
- Installation of new kitchen
- Electrical second fix
- Flooring and Skirting installation (Flooring is installed after to prevent damage from all of the previous works and trades, Kitchen legs are temporarily removed to allow the flooring to go past the plinths and refitted on top of new flooring).
Most companies will remove the old kitchen as part of their quote.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
John

If you're laying tiles I'd say yes do the whole lot, but you should NOT lay a floating floor - like laminate under the units. These types of floor need room to expand and contract.
