Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.01 PM

as title but a background story first the story is the misses put the hoover on yesterday (it caught me by surprise as well) it worked for a few seconds then shut down she checked the hoover in another room it worked so the story goes we have 4 double outlet sockets in front room 3 continued to work 1 didnt i then tried sockets in bedrooms one room 1 in 3 sockets worked all worked in the second room and 1 out of 2 worked in the small room after trying to get hold of a sparky we eventually got one last night he came round poked about for 10 minutes then said that a circuit breaker mcb was bridged to a rcbo which he unbridged and then the sockets worked but im a little concerned as im 90% sure that the mcb he took the bridge from which states boiler on sticker but had sockets written under it shut down the sockets yesterday but today thats not the case so there you go im stuck yet a little concerned as he gave a hand written on paper receipt no company name no vat reg nothing deacon i get not all sparks are registered for vat but i had one out today that is vat registered is on competent persons and did put right the issues with the unit also checked all house and gave feedback on what had been done wrongly by the spark last night ie a connection bloc behind plug socket that joined wire surely you know what one is he cut and spliced wires behind socket that had no issues im not a sparky but they feed my front door security light and a heater above door you tell me why a registered spark or even a newbie would bloc connect something that was already fine and working to a point the face plate didn't sit correctly thanks for your wisdom and kind words but like you said YOU wasnt here he was i asked a question you answered with aggression hope your customers dont get spoke to that way

I don’t understand what your point is? The electrician came out, fixed it, gave you a bill and hopefully you paid him. You are worrying about no vat number… have you thought he is not vat registered? I’m not either like hundreds of thousands of others. If you were not satisfied with his work then tell him. He was there, we were not. My edit…. Registered for vat and registered to be an electrician are not the same thing. Also, thank you for referring to me by my Surname-very kind.

If you want to check the credentials of your electrician try here >>https://www.competentperson.co.uk/ You should of received a minor works certificate if he made alterations to the circuit. Probably he was happier being paid cash which is why you received a paper receipt. Never a good sign, it shows a lack of integrity, I don't blame you for being worried.
