Burying an existing gas pipe in concrete.

I am building a porch. Our gas pipe passes through a fillet of mortar just below the front door. It is sheathed in a second piece of copper pipe where it passes through the fillet. I want to leave the pipe in situ, remove the fillet, then encase it in a split pipe and then build a new step over the pipe. The pipe will also pass through the walls of the porch, so the split pipe would be significantly longer than the copper sheath already in place. I don't want to move the pipe or get a plumber in cut it and add an extended piece of copper sheath. Is this a reasonable option? Is there a particular product for sheathing gas pipe - ie something that is split and can be pushed on and perhaps held shut with jubilee clips or simlar?
