Can I ask for receipts for paint, filler, trunking, tiles etc if billed separately

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.42 PM

I have had a ‘builder’ do some decorating, kitchen and bathroom work for a fixed quite. Most things I provided but he has been to b&q to get pipe work, paint, filler, sealant and things he needed to complete the work and has billed me separately on 4 occasions in excess of £300 each time. Can I request the shop receipts?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Receipts can be asked for, thats totally acceptable. Any decent worker shouldn't have a problem with showing you what materials they've purchased separately for your work. I would just add that some tradespeople may add a small percentage on top for time and travel. Some may invoice for materials nett/nett but add labour on to cover necessary costs.
