3 bed flat refurb. Should I treat the walls for mould even if there is no sign of it?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.42 PM

Hi, I'm moving into my first flat (3 bed, 2nd floor on an ex-council block of 4 floors / no lift) and while the flat is in good condition, it does need updating. At my brief inspection, I didn't see any signs of mould. However having lived in different council blocks before as a renter, I know mould pops up regularly. Should I treat* every wall of the 3 bed flat for mould anyway, before decorating? To save myself the hassle. Thank you for any advice. * When I say treat, I actually have no idea about any specific treatments.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, If there is no sign of mould then don't bother in most cases mould is due to lack of ventilation and in extreme cases water penitration. Hope this helps

I would only treat if you see mould the biggest cause of mould is poor ventilation so a good couple of vents put in should do u as long as u have no leaks there are many thing u can do if you do get alot of mould the paint treatment dont really last

If the mould is coming from the ceiling down the wall in the bedrooms, it more than likely the insulation hasn't been pushed into eves in the loft, hotair meeting cold air causes mould
