Should I have received an electrical certificate for a new plug socket and fused spur?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.42 PM

I've had a few small bits of electrical work carried out in my lounge, including a new double socket, wiring in some LED lights via a fused spur and then moving the position of a light switch and double socket. I never received any sort of electrical certificate for the work. Should I have and should I therefore get an electrician out to check the work? Update: Thanks for the responses. I didn't think about it at all at the time, but shortly after the work I questioned the electrician if there was a certificate I should've received. He said he would get it to me, but despite chasing, I never heard from him again. I've given up on him, but I want to make sure everything is safe and in order, even if the work has to be redone. Hoping to have someone out early this week now.

Minor Woks Certificate you should have got. Why not get in contact with the person who did the work and ask him where it is?

Hi, if the work you had done included a new circuit, you should have had an electrical installation certificate, and a minor certificate for the work that didn’t involve a new circuit. Hope that help. The NICEIC do not allow their members to sign off work done by others, I am not quite sure, but if I am not mistaken NAPIT does allow their members to sign off work done by others, you should try to get a NAPIT registered electrician to check the work and certify it, alternatively you could have an electrical installation condition report carry out this should cover you.

Yes, a Minor Electrical Works Certificate should have been issued. NB: Doesn't need to be NAPIT or NECEIC registered electrician that did the work and issued cert, they just need to be able to prove they are 'competent'. This can be proven by being a qualified electrician and/or possessing BS7671 18th Ed qualification.
