Can I use my existing phone line socket to ethernet connection
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.43 PM
Hi, I currently have a openreach master socket 5C installed in my hall way which gives ok WIFI coverage. I want to connect ethernet from my PC to my router. And there is a nearby phoneline socket next to the PC. I know I can replace the phone line socket to ethernet socket, but would my PC be connected to the LAN?

No. It’s a phone line not a network connection

You can convert it to an ethernet port providing there is enough pairs within the cable (both ends). BUT you will not get over a certain amount of mbps for example 10mbps if it is a cat3 cable.

Depends on what cable has been used inside the property
If you are lucky it might be done in ethernet cable
if its an older installation its unlikely to be the right type of cable
