Exterior window sill repair

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

Got a 1930's build house with an exterior window sill deteriorated due to weathering. The sill is made up of concrete/cement/mortar(?) covered over a line of bricks that are laid perpendicular to the window. It was finished with black masonry paint. Most of the concrete/cement/mortar has come off with light chiseling. I was going to repoint the brickwork with Bostik premix mortar, but unsure what to use on top of the brickwork, I would ideally prefer a premix from a store. Is concrete or cement (or other) best for this? Would a premix need any other additives like a bonding agent? Thanks in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This sill will need to be repaired in such a way that it matches other similar sills around the property. A premix will not give you a good match and I would be reluctant to use one. The mix will need to be made to suit the brick and too strong a mix will eventually cause spalling on the brick face.

All products you will require are all available ready made in store. It’s depth of material that defines exactly what you need. I have formed these myself using 2/1 sand(or ballast)/cement.(waterproof) My advise would be to finish in high quality waterproof paint sympathising the old look.
