Painting on to old plaster walls

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.43 PM

Hi all, I am thinking of mist coating using the Vinyl Matt with a 70/30 - paint/water mix as mist coat...think this mix is better than the tin's 10 parts to 1 part water?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I wouldn’t advise using vinyl matt in a mist coat. It can create a film and you’d run into problems again. I would stick with an ordinary matt 80 : 20 paint / water. Then use whatever you like to top coat.

I would go with the 70/30 mix as well. You want to penetrate the plaster with the first coat to avoid the emulsion just laying on top of the substrate and peeling at a later date.

I would personally use Armstead contract matt, it is a mist coat and it's a lot cheaper than buying vinyl matt and adding water.

I use leyland super leytex contract matt. There is no better than this. I don't thin it down as your just making more work for the customer or yourself. Thinning it down with water just makes a mess every where.
