There's hail coming down my chimney after a major house renovation. What's happening?

I had a full house renovation and loft conversion recently, and an alcove was created in place of an old gas fire, for a faux wood burning electric stove. I've just heard hail coming down the chimney. Does anyone know what's happening, could this be dangerous, and how can this be investigated /fixed?

Check there is a cowling on top of the chimney pot

Check to see if a cowl is fitted if not get one fitted or even put a chimney capper on it
