Will a mixer shower not be suitable with a Baxi Solo 18 HE A Boiler?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.23 PM

I'm about to renew my bathroom and I've only discovered that my boiler may not be suitable for a mixer shower. I have a Baxi Solo 18 HE A boiler, condensing?. I have been advised mixer showers only run off combi boilers and that I will need to buy an (ugly) electric shower. Can anyone tell me if this is correct? Also, I don't have great water pressure in my home. I would be grateful for any advice and some clarity on this. Thanks Linda

Your boiler heats your hot water cylinder, it doesn't feed your shower mixer directly If you have a tank in your loft it will feed cold water to your shower mixer and the hot water to your shower mixer will come from the cylinder. In this situation you will need a low pressure shower mixer. If you have an unvented hot water cylinder directly connected to the incoming mains you will need a shower mixer suitable for high pressure Your boiler therefore and mixer tap are ok, they are not connected

Your boiler indirectly heats your hot water cylinder, it doesn't feed your shower mixer directly If you have a tank in your loft it will feed cold water to your shower mixer and the hot water to your shower mixer will come from the cylinder. In this situation you will need a low pressure shower mixer, the flow rate and pressure with this is just working off what head you have. If you say you don’t have good pressure in your house you won’t have an invented system so the best way to get a decent shower is to use a shower pump, this will use the water from cold water tank and the cylinder.

You can run a mixer shower if you have a baxi solo he, however the hot and cold water supplies would need to be under a higher pressure via a pump if the existing hot and cold supplies are gravity fed only. You may have a unvented cylinder if this is the this case the shower can run directly off the hot and cold supplies without the need of a booster pump. The boiler doesn't directly heat your hot water but instead indirectly heats the hot water cylinder. The statement that a thermostatic mixer shower can only run off of a combi boiler is false.
