Noisy pipes/vibration from cold water pipes
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.23 PM
After having a new combi boiler fitted a very bad noise/vibration starts in the cold water pipes after flushing the downstairs toilet. The toilet is the old type with a separate water inlet, could this be causing the problem.

Yes, you can get a mini shock arrester to fit near the boiler on the cold main, but it’s more likely to be a new fill valve or new washer in your taps

unclipped pipes, clip if you can or fit water hammer arrester, or equilibrium ball valve in wc cistern.

Hi if it’s a recently fitted combi boiler most manufacturers recommend a shock arrestor/mini expansion vessel or PRV pressure reducing valve on incoming cold so it should be fitted and you can check that yourself/boiler installer. Is your incoming cold quite high pressure? It could be a number of things loose pipes, new valve on toilet inlet, old Styles have different nozzles for high and low pressure, modern ones have inserts to deal with high/low pressure. If you believe toilet is problem you could fit a pressure reducing valve on the incoming cold to toilet yourself approx £30
