Driveways & Paving

Areas of existing 5 year old block paving sunk, and pooling water

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.39 PM

I had my driveway block paved about 6 years ago and originally paid for the whole drive to be block paved but changed my mind at the last minute and had about 16m2 reduced but foolishly didn't get any money back. I am now looking to extend the driveway by about 8m2, but the new pavers are finding several faults, dips, highs, and areas of pooling water, including areas where the drive has sunk due next to the pavement due to not being concreated or a being edged properly. My question is do I have any comeback 5 years later in that area of the paving is sinking and has not been laid properly the drainage is high and not bedded correctly or is it my fault for using a cheap company?? Feel that I have been taken to the cleaners as I have now been quoted £2500-£3000 to correct do I have any legal options? The company is still trading and on another website has lots of evidence of happy customers, and back by insurance but again when i checked the first time found some of these to be bogus.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This all depends if you received a guarantee from the company however if the edgings are not laid properly in concrete then I would say you have a chance however if they are installing such a bad job chances are they won't be around long enough ..

Hi Most contractors would offer a five year guarantee on their work. Unfortunately you fall outside of that time frame. In the first instance I would get a second opinion on what needs to be done to correct the existing part of your drive. If what you saying is correct and the work wasn’t done correctly you should have a case regardless of a formal guarantee. Hope that helps.

Bit of a tricky one.

As for any problems with the new pavers that have sunk , you will have to take them up and also the area around it , there is a good chance that the ground below is not prepped properly and that they used to much sand . As for the edge course I would take out and re do area all the way round edge course for peace of mind. As for getting in contact with previous company there is a slight chance they may come back and fix but you probably won't get them to return. Scott Snr Building
