Fixing a rotten post of a playhouse without dismantling.
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.39 PM
Hi all So i have a timber post of a playhouse that is rotten at the base (about 26cm from the base). Cannot really take everything down as it means dismantling everything. I am thinking to install several metal plates for support, similar to Metpost. Will this be strong enough? Would also be great if you can tell me where can i order the custom plates from. Thank you Regards Max

Hi Max,
Rather than trying to preserve a rotten post, remove the rot.
Prop the joist that can support the post and cut away the rotten section of post. Dig out the old post in the ground along with the concrete and then splice a new section of post into the existing post above the rot line. This will be a much better job and last longer. You will also save money on any other products you were going to purchase like met posts which isn't a great fix.
I hope this helps.
thanks
Brendan

Hi max you can repair the post by installing a concrete post called a spur you dig down byside the rotten post and install and concrete spur which is bolted to the existing wooden post and then concrete the spur in with post mix the concrete spurs come in a 4x4 or 3x3 depending on the rotten post which you all ready have so if the rotten post is 3x3 then you buy a 3x3 spur and if the post is 4x4 inches then buy a 4x4 spur ther normally about £7.00 a spur depending on what company you buy the spur from but Orchard fencing Ltd is the cheapest place to buy a spur from they have a branches in Erith welling and Catford mate hope this helps
