Bathroom Fitting

Water Damage to bathroom sink vanity and storage cupboard

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.42 PM

I had a bathroom fitted 11 months ago and the cupboards the fitter installed are bowing and coming apart. The fitter tells me it’s water damage and refuses to replace them. I was led to believe that the cupboards were waterproof but he is inferring this is my fault. Is he responsible or am I?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello Annj, if you supplied the cabinets then it's down to you to replace them but if your fitter supplied them then it's down to them to supply you with the appropriate cabinets to use in your bathroom. Your bathroom will generate alot of steam and without a good extractor fan the water can be damaging. Simon Taskmaster

Im sorry to hear you've had this trouble. Most shop bought bathroom furniture will be suitable for bathrooms. What kind of water damage are they exposed to ? If your bathroom has excessive moisture/condensation it could it could of penetrated the inner wood. It could be he cut down parts and not sealed the edges and used silicon which if he's doing a good job he should of. Without seeing it and knowing more its hard to give a full verdict but I hope I helped.
