Loud Rumbling when boiler clicks on
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.42 PM
Hello, over the last couple of weeks our boiler makes a really loud rumbling noise for 10 secs when it switches on to heat up the water (radiator setting off right now). It then goes back to normal and quiet. But the rumbling noise is so loud and v worrying. Is this a build up of air? Will bleeding the radiators help? We got the boiler serviced last month and all was fine. It’s only 3 years old. Thanks for your help.

If there is some air in your system this can cause your system to make a lot of noise when starting. Check your boiler pressure is between 1-1.5bar, turn your heating back on for a few minutes to allow any air to clear.
If this doesn't solve the problem call your service engineer back to make sure your gas valve readings are set correctly.

It could possibly be a build up of limescale in the heat exchanger sometimes it could sound like a kettle boiling. Which would need to be descaled or changed by a Gas Safe engineer.

From what you have described it could be a number of things. It's normally an issue with the gas valve or fan but not limited to. I would suggest you call a GasSafe engineer out as soon as possible.
