Is roofer liable for water damage to ceiling during reroof hours?

We are currently getting our roof replaced & inset gutters relined on our Victorian mid terrace property. Work started on Tuesday, I was told roof was watertight on Friday and would be fine over the weekend.
It’s Saturday night and after 2 days of rain, several large wet patches have appeared on bedroom ceiling towards the front of the house.
I know the tiling isn’t complete on front of house yet, but am shocked how much damage is being done to the ceiling.
Is this to be expected? Is the roofer responsible for additional water damage caused?
There was a note about damage to ceilings on the quote, we have several holes appeared in the plaster in the bathroom ceiling caused by attaching the the new slates. This I understand to be unavoidable, but water damage was not mentioned.
Basically I need to know if this is a sign of a job not being done well, should I be concerned?
Thanks in advance.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Once a roof has been felt and battened there should be minimal damage.....
I would say 95% watertight.
I would be a tad concerned if there was substantial damage.
Saying that, there is an option to have a temporary roof erected at your cost so the money saved from the temporary roof is balanced against water damage.
Personally I have very little ingress during process.

No it’s not acceptable the roof should be fully watertight once felted .
Yes your roofer should be liable for the damage caused .
The question is if the roof is felted in why is it leaking ? .
Sounds like poor workmanship as you said it’s leaking in multiple places .
If it’s leaking now chances are it will be leaking when they are finished. Sometimes you can have issues with tarps blowing off of not fitted correctly but it should be watertight before you leave a job.
I would suggest you just speak to the roofer and let him know it’s leaking. If he doesn’t know about it he can’t fix it.
Too many people jump on here looking for advice when a simple call to the roofer could sort it all out !
Hi there, with regards to your damaged ceilings whilst having the roof renewed I would always before any works have started inspect or have a copy provided of the Company’s liability Insurance to make sure this was in force and again the company are liable for any damage caused whilst they are renewing the roof. They should put right any damage caused. It is their responsibility to make sure the roof is left watertight in the progress of works. Hope this helps, Richard
