1st floor extension over new kitchen

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.23 PM

We have been planning to fit a new kitchen, which would include removal of an existing archway and insertion of RSJ to merge the existing kitchen/breakfast room. However the breakfast room section is part of a flat-roofed extension, and we also had a plan to extend over the top of this. It has been suggested that this is not a sensible order to do things in and that we'd be better off tolerating the ancient kitchen a while longer, doing the extension first (maybe do the RSJ in the breakfast room at the same time), and once that's all done fit the new kitchen. Timings wise I'd rather get the kitchen done first, but obviously now worried that we will either trash the new kitchen during the extension, or working around it will make things much more complicated. Should we do things in the 'sensible' order, or does it not make much difference? Thanks for any advice! Martin

I would recommend doing the “dirty” work first. No matter how well you protect the new kitchen it will end up covered in dust and possibly scratch the worktop and doors. Tradesmen will be walking through your new kitchen with tools and dirty shoes.

Do not fit a new kitchen and then have building work done my advice kitchens are expensive they should be last thing to be installed even first coat of paint should go on first 👍🏻

Yes I agree with the others, definitely complete all other work before fitting the kitchen.
