Freezer is not keeping food frozen, and frost accumulating on top shelf / freezing compartment only

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.23 PM

My Zanussi Electrolux Fridge Freezer is currently not been keeping food frozen for approx a week, if they are in the second and third storage compartment. The top shelf (freezing compartment) is very frosty. I have upped the temperature of the freezer as it was on low, but that hasn't seemed to helP. I have checked if the defrost drain is blocked and it isn't. Next step would be to try and defrost the freezer. Can anyone offer suggestions on what else to try?

Frost build up can be caused by a failed door seal, or an insulation failure or a system fault. or a failed defrost system which comprises of a timer and a small heating element that melts the ice from time to time. You can easily check the door seal, anything else requires a refrigeration engineer. I assume this is a frost free freezer, if it is, it has a fan. If this fan is at the top and is caked in ice, it will not be able to turn and force air to the other parts of the freezer hence no cooling ability in the lower sections. if as described by the previous commentator if it is a lack of gas, this can only be caused by a gas leak, which typically seeps out at a very low rate over a long period. This will then continue until there is no cooling effect at all and the compressor will continuously run until it seizes up There is nothing to stop you Defrosting the freezer manually, this may clear the issue but is likely to return after a week/month

There are many reasons. It’s likely to be a faulty part. Check condenser coils they may be dirty. Evaporator fan may have stopped circulating the air throughout the freezer. I would defrost the thing first then see. If it’s under a year old call the company it should be in warranty or buy a new one. Might not be the answer you want but if the above doesn’t solve it might be in need of repair which if your paying for yourself without insurance can be pricey depending on what’s up with it.

If it’s a intergrated fridge the door needs adjusted so it seals properly
