GARDEN GATE KICKED IN AGAIN

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.23 PM

Hi, I have a garden gate located at the end of my garden that gets damaged or kicked in every year, they missed last year because lockdown I'm guessing. I am now replacing another garden gate and a section of fencing ( fencing, approx 6 ft wide and 6ft high currently feather boards) I need advice on choosing better quality fencing and gate combo. What should I be looking for in terms of gate/ posts and locks requirements so that I put a more stable blockade at the end of my garden. I have been looking at Metal Framed wood doors but I don't want to spend money on something that is not going to be any stronger than regular gate options. Any advice is ALWAYS appreciated and I thank anyone who takes the time to advise. If you need more info I can update here. Phia Edit Thank you Michael Bell

Hi maybe try thicker wood, use more rails to make more rigid ,also screws rather than nails and maybe heavy duty gate furniture and extra bolts

Majority of feather edge is done with 2 rails either add a third rail so strengthens the feather edge, or change fence style, to as mentioned solid board, or hit and miss solid board, there’s plenty of options,, definitely suggest beefing up the gate as feather edge gates are pretty flimsy I tend to use 3 rails and two diagonal braces and plenty of fixings on the rails as well as the bracing other than that switch to solid board stile on the gate

I think if you have already had wood in the past, and that has not worked for you, then metal has to be the way to go.
