Should I ask for a certificate of insurance policies?

I have received a quote for a job that I'm not sure if I should ask for a copy of the insurance policies. It's a relatively small job but I have never used this contractor before. What should I do in this case? Thank you.

What you need to do is check they are registered. This guarantees they are insured and also a minimum level of competency. They can also self certify work with your local building control.
