Self levelling compound on floor boards?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.39 PM

I’m planning on laying tile down in my bathroom. I’ve lifted up the old flooring today and found half concrete (slightly higher) and the other half floor boards. My initial thought is to level it out using self levelling compound over the floorboards. This would then bring the floor up to the same level as the already existing concrete. Can I use that stuff directly onto floorboards?

Always use subfloor such as backerboards or plywood on top of floor boards prior to tiling;then use latex levelling compound if still needs to bring to the concrete level do not apply levelling compound on floorboards directly,it can always crack and cause tilies to loose.

Installing a sub floor over floor boards is a must. Levelling compound can be applied on top of this. This process will make your tiling easier in terms of being level. The tiles and grout will also stick better to the floor. Must use the flexible tile and grout adhesive.
