sanded walls as old paint on but can still see the paint

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.42 PM

Hiya I live in my house which is 21 years old I've just taken off the wallpaper sugar soaped the walls and sanded them down but can still see the paint from when it was redecorated last time (wallpaper has taken some of the paint off but not all) i was going to give it two coats of plain paint then my chosen colour on top. Will this work and if not what would I need to do?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Fill the walls first to get rid of any inperfections then a light sand down followerd by 3 coats of your chosen colour.

Depending on how imperfect walls are, they might need plastering or lining paper if there is not much gaps caused by removing wallpaper, I would reckon what Proctor Decorating mentioned.

If you fill what you can see first, wait for it to dry and sand it back you could get a first coat on and that will show up any more filling that’s required, if you do need to re-fill once it’s dry, sand it and you will be able to use a mini roller to touch up the filled areas, wait for that to dry out and then recoat it all, or another option is as Tomasz said above about lining the walls first and then painting over that, but you’ll still want to sand the walls and fill them to a certain extent first to get the best finish you can
