Extending beneath a Bay Window
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.39 PM
I've bought a house recently which has bay windows but only the window protrudes from the house, not the brickwork above or below. Is it possible to extend out the brickwork under the window to get the benefit of the extra space in the house or is it more a case of rip out the window and do this as a kind of mini extension?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes you can extend the brickwork out to the bay window line. You will need to create a new foundation for the extended brickwork, and add floor joists for the extended portion of floor. We have completed similar jobs before, it's usually not too complicated.

As it is not load bearing you would only need a small foundation.there a couple of ways to do it .example: timber frame structure clad with cement board and render. You might be lucky that your existing foundation on the house is wide enough.also consider the cost.i wish you all the best
