Low hot water pressure in bathroom

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.39 PM

Since I had the bathroom replaced, new bath and sink but kept shower, the hot water pressure is really low in this room only. Cold is fine and both are fine downstairs. The shower pressure is also low and the pump would only kick in intermittently, so had the pump replaced but new one is no better. So assume that the low water pressure means the pump won't kick in? I have cold water tank in attic, tank in airing cupboard and baxi boiler in the kitchen. Any ideas what to try? Update. Without doing anything, the shower is fine today, but I know it won't last. I did the water flow test on the bathroom sink and got 250ml of hot water in 6 seconds, so 2.5l a minute! Apparently, less than 10l is bad? Would an airlock cause this too? Didn't test the bath hot tap but although that's show too, it's not as bad as the sink?

Hi, From what you say you have a problem with the water flow to your shower pump. When you turn on your shower the very small movement of water (either hot or cold ) activates the flow switch on the electric pump and it starts to force the water through the shower head. If this does not happen either there is a problem with the pump ( unlikely as its new ) or you have an airlock in the system. It has nothing to do with the water pressure. Try turning off the electricity to the pump, put the shower head in lowest position you can ( rest it on the bottom of the bath ) and then turn on the shower for a couple of minutes. It should dribble through without much strength which usually clears any air in the pipework. Turn it off and switch the electricity back on and then try the shower again. Guy

Sounds like you have air in the system regarding pump shower. Your new taps may only be suited for high pressure systems. Check the taps minuim operating pressure on manufactured leaflet.

Hi there it’s always difficult to assess these type of problems without a site visit, but I will do my best to advise, firstly the intermittent shower problem could be 2 things, have you got a positive or negative head shower? This is based on the head height which is the distance from the water level in the tank to the shower head outlet? Also has the shower got its own water supplies? The cold has to have it’s own direct supply from the tank and the hot should be via a ‘Surrey Flange’ that should be installed at the top of the hot water cylinder so the shower has its own supply and doesn’t suck in air, your tap pressure problem is probably due to the fact that you have bought taps designed for high pressure systems so they have inside a ceramic disc which is more restrictive, as I say without an inspection this is the best description I can give.
