Replacement Coals
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.39 PM
I need to replace the coals in my gas fire (they were square and looked like coals but very light weight). Can I replace with the pebbles that I've seen being sold online, I'd like to move away from the black squares to a lighter colour pebble type effect. How can I find out what gas fire I have to make sure I purchase the correct ones? A gas engineer said I could just spray the black ones to give them a face lift (they are very dusty as I hardly use the fire) but that didn't sound right??? Thanks in advance

To change from coals to pebbles you would need the manufacturers instructions. You can get coal spray which is the cheap alternative.

Fire will have a data plate located on it which will have make, model, serial number, gc number etc, with this information you will be able to get the manufacturers instructions, these will tell you if replacement coals are available. I would not advise buying just any replacements as specific fires have specific coals, logs, pebbles etc that are placed a certain way so the appliance burns and functions properly
Hope this helps

The black spray that was recommended to you is a professional spray designed for the specific job that you need. The answer given by your engineer is exactly what I would say, they will look like new once resprayed. Regarding the pebbles, you can only find if they are compatible from the manufacturers instructions of you can call the manufacturers to ask them.
