Ask a questionDamp Proofing
need a new laminate floor, but the old ones have already been damped
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.39 PM
After moving the old laminate floor, I found the old wood slats along the outside wall rotted. If I want to lay a new laminate floor, what I can do? I know the moist is from the outside wall; maybe I should do the damp proofing on both side, wall and floor? Please give me some ideas, thanks a lot.

I would get rid of rotten boards put in new damp course making sure new render and plaster do not bridge and put in a new liquid membrane to floor curing all problems the floor i take it is of solid construction with wooden batons on for laminate no need to rebaton after new me.brane just good underlay on floor before re laminating

You could take the row of damp ‘floorboards’ up, apply a DPM (damp proof membrane) or DP paint to the inside of the damp wall, lay new floorboards or replace with existing.
Then possibly consider some damp proof laminate underlay for your new laminate floor, perhaps even consider PVC type laminate flooring.
Hope this answer is of some help,

I would make sure the dampness i cured before laying a laminate floor as laminate floor is susceptible to moisture.

Anyone providing an answer to this is having a stab on the dark, without seeing the job it I almost possible to give an idea of the requirements as it could need a variety of solutions. Any local damp company will call out and Inspect the floor and give you the correct path forward with the project.
