Multi finish or lime based plaster?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

Hi, I am planning to have some walls replastered and waterproofed. The builder plans to take old plaster right back to the brickwork, use two coats of Sika waterproof render and then apply a multi finish topcoat. I contacted Sika about something else but they did say a lime based plaster top coat was better to avoid 'pooling and delamination' whatever that means! The builder says he's never had any issues using a multi finish plaster before with this product and he is reputable. This is for one internal party wall and a window wall. My independant surveyor said that a gypsum based top coat is all right. Any ideas to put my mind at rest please?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

After applying a base coat of sand cement and an integral water proof additive, there is no problem in applying a multi or board finish top coat, I have been using this material since 1981 with no come backs

Hi its quite quite simple what you should do is wet walls down with water you do not need PVA. use a waterproofer plasticer added to the water on the can it will tell you how much water proofer to use per bag of cement . Use a washed rendering sand . IE laton buzzard or westerham b sand . Then finish with multi finish thats how it should be done
