Whats the min space between each copper pipe resting on joist
Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.55 PM
Hello, I have recently had a bad job done by a contractor who put two copper pipes together. They are resting on flooring joist in bathroom and the issue is I can not space them out as there is no room. If I cut into the 3 joists would this not weaken the structural integrity of the house. My only other concern is if they are getting hotter each time i put radiator on would the pipes not burst. Please advise on a solution and comments below please. Kind Regards Ali

The pipes will not burst.
As long as the cuts in the joists are a 3rd from the edge and not deeper than a third you should be ok.
Use a multi tool to cut a bit more space on the side of the copper pipe... Don't touch the pipe with the multi tool... Leave some space from the copper pipe and cut the wood. Then pry a piece out... Use plastic 15mm nail in pipe holders.
Should be ok with that hopefully

The joist sure not be notch out more than 1/8 the pipe should be secured with clip to stop them vibrating and causing wear and a strike plate should then be put over the notch to stop accidental put hole them when screw back down there is a calculate to help with this on the internet will also tell how far a long the joist it can been cut hope this helps
