Need help and advice with screws for my little project

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.01 PM

I have been told:- I need 5 inch screws for staircase. Is this called Single head countersunk 5.0 x 40mm..? I need 4 inch screws for floorboard. Is this called Floor-Tite Tri-Lock Pozi Screw 4.2 x 45mm..? I need panel pins for staircase beading. Is this called Vaneer pin 25mm (50gm) Please get back to me. I confused with the names and what they all look like.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You can not get 5 inch screws you can get 100mm x 5mm screws which are 4 inch x 10 the screws for your floor boards would be 4mm x 40mm or 4mm x 50mm, you can use 25mm panel pins for your beading.

You need 5 x 120mm which is 5 inch screws You can't get floor tite screw in 4 inch or 100mm but don't know why you would need screws that size to screw floor boards down 4 x 50mm screw will be fine The panel pins will be fine for the beading

100mm x5.0 csk screws for the stairs,50mm x 4mm csk or 70mm x 4mm csk for the floor boards and 25mm or 30mm panel pins with wood glue are required for your beading, csk stands for countersunk.Don’t purchase cheap screws as they chew up and snap off, this answer is based on not being able to view the work.Good luck with your project.

You can actually get screws up to 250mm but I don’t know why you would need them on a staircase, maybe fixing back to the wall but 100x5 would do. If it’s chipboard flooring use 5x50mm fully threaded screws then it won’t squeak and use panel pins as they don’t bend as easy as veneer pins
