Driveways & Paving

Rust colour patches appearing on a brand new driveway .

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.01 PM

My new pale grey drive has lots of rust colour patches appearing after 3 months. I told the people who laid it , they offered to replace a few bricks. I refused as more in the future could discolour, and the new and old bricks will look odd. I wanted it all replaced for darker bricks as it looks bad. The manufacturer of the bricks has dismissed there is a problem with the bricks but has only seen a photo. What do I do to get it solved? The builder has done a lovely job it's not his fault it's the bricks, but the manufacturer says they are fit for purpose and there is no issue .

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Need to see a photo. Also surprised the manufacturer is not prepared to look at it.

This could be a high iron content withing the block making process, Unfortunately wouldn't be the company's fault who laid it , Have you used weed killers and other products near your drive way because of you have spilt this on the drive they also make staining because of metal contents in the product.

Need to see it to know for sure, depends on the type of paving and actual type of the brick/blocks. If you need to clean it then a brick acid might be the solution. But like I say, without seeing it, it's hard to tell. I should add that if the paving is discoloured, then it's highly unlikely to be the tradesman fault. It's a manufacturing issue

I’ve heard of a similar situation with a fellow contractor who used tobermore’s product. He was also was paid to re-lay, by them because of the situation. I would sympathise with the contractor as it’s a demoralising situation if they’ve otherwise done a good job.
