Click sound after I turn off the gas hob

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.41 PM

I have a standard gas hob which is about 3 years old. Working absolutely fine and no issues. I’ve noticed that once I have used any of the 4 hobs, there is a single click sound a few seconds after. It sounds mechanical and underneath the stove and is definitely not the clicking from the spark. I’ve read that it’s the the flame safety devices cutting off and is normal but wanted to be sure

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello, the clicking sound that you hear a few seconds or so after you turn off the gas ring is the sound of the safety thermocouple cooling down and shutting off the gas to that ring... Its a safety device built into most hobs and is there to automatically shut off the gas if the flame goes out therefore stopping unburnt gas to let by into the room... If you hear a good solid click that is good as the older the hob gets the less pronounced the sound therefore failing... Nothing electrical... (I am an electrician and gas engineer)

If you have a gas stove or cooktop, you’re probably pretty familiar with this sound. You turn the knob to on, hear a few clicks, and the burner ignites. All is well. However, what do you do when you hear igniters clicking after the burner turned off? There are a few different reasons why your igniters click after the burner is turned off. It could be caused by a faulty switch, burner caps that are askew, dirty igniters or moisture around the igniters
