Building a porch between front door and brick shed

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.41 PM

Hi, (not sure if this should be in the extensions category) but we are considering sealing off a small space between our front door and shed, maybe 3m2 or so which would involve building a brick walls on both sides, one which would have the new front door in it. I'm sure there would be a need for the floors and walls of the shed/house to also be redone so that it is completely clean and sealed from the elements. We would then look to have our (brick) shed completely cleared out and sealed so that it is also a clean space where items can be stored and accessed easily. Right now it's bare brick, a light and you can see the wooden beams along the ceiling. I have two questions: 1. Does this count for an extension which we'd need planning permission for? 2. What kind of tradesmen would I want for this kind of job? If you need any more details, please ask. Thanks in advance for you help.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Without seeing area u want to use to become a porch I would assume no planning required as long as you retain your existing front door ( or replace with new item as part build it has to be an exterior door) If remove existing door you would need building regs as new porch would become part of house which is deemed habitual dwelling! Rest relating to shed is of no issue Hope makes sense Kind Regards Dave

Hi, answer is based on not seeing any plans etc, and if I have understood correctly, you are possiblyooming to create / extend porch area upto approx 3m2, it may well fall under permitted development.
