Pitched roof on garage with non-parallel walls

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.40 PM

We're planning an extension part of which will involve replacing an existing flat roof over the garage. However the garage is wider at the front than at the back (the wall follows the boundary of the plot). Can we put a pitched roof on this? To match the house roof the ridge would be be parallel to the street, so the roof would get narrower as it went up to the ridge, and then narrower again as it sloped down to the back of the house. The garage taper is about 1.2m change in width over approx 9m so I don't think it would look too weird but would it be a problem to construct? And if so are there any good alternatives? Tried to add a simple text diagram, but it gets mangled, hope the above is clear. Thanks for any advice!

You cud but it wud involve a lot of cutting ing in timber works. In witch be a lot of labor costs. Yes it wud look bit mad as a roof line.

Before considering any alterations, always firstly make enquiries to local planning authorities to see if planning permission is required. John smith ABERFELT ROOFING SERVICES

Without drawings the best thing to do is get someone round to give advice, not that simple from your description.

Shouldn’t be a problem to a decent joiner and roofer, nothing we haven’t seen before. Might be better off having it as a cut roof rather than trussed.
