Damp Proofing

Damp coming in from a gap between properties. Is there a breathable filler?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.40 PM

Hi Without adding a photo it is difficult to explain but to the side of property (adjoining next property) is a two inch gap but after a few metres this narrows to no gap. The gap is enclosed one storey high. Damp is getting into this space and causing cracks in kitchen plaster. Is is best to try and get small air bricks into the opening of the gap to avoid rain going in, or is there a filler that can help rid the area of the damp? Thank you for understanding this hopefully, and your help!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This is quite a common problem these days ! The gap between the two properties is not causing cracking to your wall ; that’s a different issue . The only fault that could be caused by this is actually damp at low level , you’ll know the difference. Yes, it’s good to cover the area to prevent rain water penetration but not essential, the most important issue is to keep the ground level between the properties to below your DPM , that can be difficult.
