Want visible joists across bedroom ceiling with plasterboard above

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.42 PM

Hi there, I like the look of exposed ceiling joists running across the ceiling painted the same colour as the ceiling and wondered if anyone else has done this? I've removed the old lath and plaster ceiling that was fixed to the underside which adds a bit of height to the room too and I'm planning on fitting 18mm ply to the top of the joists then plaster boarding the underside to allow for a good paintable finish. I just wondered if anyone else has done this or had any recommendations? Thanks

Fix plasterboard to the top of the joists this will leave the joists exposed for painting,

As ATT has said...easier than cutting all the board between the joists

Yes as above no point using ply as you won't be walking on the ceiling

If you do try to give the appearance of exposed joists you could batern the sides of your joists ply and board to give the look your trying to achieve ,however you should take in account you will get more noise transfer from above and your joist will have zero fire protection and you could get cracking in any joints in decorated finish.Good luck with your project.
