Mortar mix for stone boundary wall.

1 part lime 1 part cement 6 building sand for a darker colour 1 lime 2 cement 6 sand

No cement should be used at all on a stone wall. If you are unsure of process best option would be to buy a pre mixed lime pointing mortar supplied by masons mortar. This only requires adding water for mix. Hope this helps

Depends on stone being used a soft stone like sandstone needs a soft mortar to make a soft mortar you add hydrated lime to mix a good mix for a soft mortar would be one part cement, one lime and six sand, a hard stone can take a sand and cement mix without the lime but preferably with all stonework a better mix would be using natural hydraulic lime and sand and no cement 👍

For a strong mortar mix 3 sand to 1 cement will be a good strong job for stone walling

I would agree with the mix being 1 or 2 parts lime, and 1 part cement, but i would disagree with 6 building sand , I would use 3 parts plastering sand and 3 parts building sand, stops any cracking of big joints which would be common in a stone wall.
