New patio covered in damp patches

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.42 PM

Had new patio laid 2 weeks ago on full bed of hardcore and mortar, joints filled with resin bound product. Patio is covered in damp patches which are worse in morning. It was heavy rain before and after patio was laid for several days.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Joints should not be filled with an impervious mortar or resin. The joints are for water to escape and evaporate. I suspect water is trapped under the patio until it drains naturally. Personally, I would have brushed a dry, weak mix of mortar in to the joints to consolidate.

Hi. I would off waited a few days for the flags to dry out. But it sounds like water is holding under the flags and is trapped. Without knowing the depth of the mot and the sort of ground underneath the mot for the water to get away. Perhaps lift a flag and see whats going on underneath.

should have drainage installed levels to Slight fall allowing aco to catch all water leaving none standing also should have been left 14 days to dry before doing the joints

The patio should have been laid to a fall which would allow water to drain joints can be resined aslong as there is a fall the sun should dry the slabs and sub base out in time if the patio is puddling then there at dips in the slabs abd not enough fall
