What type of screws are suitable to screw down:- a) 6x1 floorboards b) beading on staircases

I would use 4.0x50mm screws for you floor boards and beware of any pipes . And would use pva glue and nails for your beads

Generally, for securing floorboards, you would want to use countersunk or flat-head screws to ensure they sit flush with the surface of the floorboard. So 50mm screws would be best. Due to the smaller size of the beading and the need for a neat finish, you might choose smaller nails and wood glue.
